Can You Break Down the Timeline for a Whole-House Remodel Week by Week?
Setting the Right Expectations
Every remodel is different, but having a clear timeline helps homeowners understand what’s happening, when, and why. On average, a full-home remodel takes between 16 and 32 weeks (4 to 8 months), depending on scope, square footage, material availability, and permitting.
At Caliber Construction™, we create detailed schedules before work begins — so you’re never guessing what comes next. Here’s how a typical whole-house remodel unfolds week by week.
Weeks 1–2: Planning, Permits & Preparation
- Finalize design drawings and selections.
- Submit permits and coordinate with township or building department.
- Order long-lead materials (cabinets, custom tile, appliances).
- Protect existing spaces not being remodeled.
- Utility disconnects and temporary power if needed.
This phase sets the foundation for a smooth remodel. If plans and materials aren’t ready, nothing else can run on time — that’s why we handle this step meticulously.
Weeks 3–6: Demolition & Rough Framing
- Full demo of existing spaces.
- Structural framing changes, wall removals, beam installs.
- Subfloor or framing reinforcement as needed.
- Begin layout preparation for new plumbing and electrical.
You’ll see major progress during this time — the “tear-out and rebuild” stage. Homes start transforming from old layouts to open, modern designs.
Weeks 7–10: Mechanical Rough-Ins (Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC)
- Rough-in plumbing lines, drains, and vents.
- Electrical wiring, recessed lighting, and new outlets.
- HVAC ductwork rerouting or new systems installed.
- Inspections by the township once rough-ins are complete.
This is when your home starts functioning again — even if it’s still behind the walls. Once approved, we can start sealing everything back up.
Weeks 11–14: Insulation, Drywall & Prep Work
- Install insulation for soundproofing and energy efficiency.
- Hang, tape, and finish drywall.
- Sanding, priming, and first coats of paint.
- Layout marking for cabinets and trim.
By now, the home starts to look like a livable space again. Walls are smooth, lighting is wired, and the design starts taking shape.
Weeks 15–20: Flooring, Trim, and Paint Finishes
- Install flooring throughout the home (hardwood, tile, or luxury vinyl).
- Custom trim and molding installation.
- Doors, hardware, and baseboards fitted.
- Final painting and touch-up work.
This is where craftsmanship and detail really show. The home starts to feel like “you” again — polished, refined, and ready for finishes.
Weeks 21–26: Cabinetry, Tile & Fixtures
- Kitchen and bathroom cabinets installed.
- Countertops templated and fabricated.
- Backsplashes, shower tile, and decorative finishes completed.
- Plumbing fixtures, mirrors, and specialty lighting installed.
This is the stage where everything comes together. You’ll see the design vision finally materialize — from colors and textures to lighting and hardware.
Weeks 27–32: Final Touches & Walkthrough
- Appliance installation and trim-out for electrical and plumbing.
- Final cleaning, paint touch-ups, and hardware adjustments.
- Township final inspections.
- Client walkthrough, punch list, and warranty review.
This final phase ensures your remodel meets both township standards and Caliber’s quality expectations before you move back in or call the project complete.
Why Timelines Can Shift
Delays usually come from material lead times, design changes, or inspection scheduling. Weather can also impact projects that include additions or exterior work.
Our solution? Constant communication and a well-structured project schedule — so you always know what’s next and where things stand.
My Professional Advice
Every remodel is a team effort — the more prepared and decisive you are in the early stages, the smoother your timeline runs. Plan thoroughly, lock in materials early, and trust the process. Quality work takes time — but it’s worth it every single time.
